There are two families I know. Both of them have parents who are sick. One of them is dying - soon.
Not that it's any of my business, but I heard one dad talking about the kids. He said, "Well, the kids don't know yet. She (mom) doesn't want them to worry about it."
I wanted to shout at him, grab him by the throat and say, "Like hell they don't know! The whole damn town knows, I'm pretty sure they've figured it out." But then I felt sad for them - incredibly sorry, because I have only been on one side of the story (the sucky side in my opinion).
The other family is also guarding their kids. They pretend the kids don't know - but they do. I know they do.
Part of me knows that it is not my place to give these people any advice, and the other part of me says, "Somebody needs to, and who better than somebody who has been there, and paid the price?"
Maybe things could be different for their daughters - maybe not.
