birthday gifts

If you've read this blog for a while you know that I am not a big fan of December 11th.

I do NOT like my birthday.

The 8th one was particularly bad, and the 10th was not much better. Aside from that - I think it is pointless to celebrate that I am in fact, one year closer to my demise.

However - today was pretty decent. To start with, I have wonderful boys in all of my dance classes - who were more than happy to dance to "Newsies" all week. They make my job fun, and I am so lucky to work with these kids - I could not be luckier.

Aside from that little gift - I got quite possibly the strangest assortment of gifts you can possibly imagine:

The first came yesterday, when my very dear friend whom I will just call "the director" changed her mind and chose THE WIZ instead of barfy PIPPIN for this year's musical. (Not that she had much choice - since a teacher at my school just shot himself last week in a dorm, and the final scene of Pippin is a suicide thing.) THE WIZ is like my favorite music EVER and I have never had the chance to choreograph it - so I am thrilled!

The rest of the list is a little bizzare - but obviously came from people who know me very well - A god's-eye made with popsicle sticks, my favorite color yarn, and lots of love; a violin serenade by a very handsome gentleman; a night of free babysitting; a pan of my most favorite enchiladas; gummy worms; 8 hugs; 22 facebook happy-birthdays; 5 wishes in a wishing well; the new Harry Potter book; 2 Christmas CD's (thanks Melanie); dinner with my family; chapstick; a most hideous yet extremely enthusiastic vocal ensemble serenade; 6 birthday cards; raspberry cake; and. . . . super comfy sweatpants and 5 Xanax - which is simultaneously the strangest and possibly most needed gift of the day.

You still have one more gift coming...possibly the most useful of all the gifts you received. Sorry we didn't get it to you on your big day.

Your view of birthdays as one step closer to your demise is probably the most twisted view I've ever heard. Take the Xanax and come up with a new outlook!
