perspective

So I was talking to little brother the other day, and I am not sure how it all went down, but we started talking about California, and who we should visit, and why we don't, and I mentioned my visit to the stepmother and that she was still basically nuts.

It's funny that we both remember the same things. Neither of us would negate what the other one says, but apparently the impact they had on us both was just a little different, because last night, he says this . . . .

"She's not crazy."

"Pardon?"

"She's not. I have a mind like a steel trap. She was always nice to me."

"WHAT?!"

"I'm serious."

"I have a steel trap memory as well. Are you telling me that you cannot remember hiding in the closet and then having her beat the tar out of you?"

"Well, yeah, I do remember hiding in that closet."

"And you don't remember her beating the crap out if me for refusing to hem a 15 year-old's dress."

"Yes, that is vaguely familiar too."

"And the dead parakeet, and the hair, and calling the cops - how can you say she was nice?"

"Well she read me bedtime stories and had Apple Pectin Shampoo and cut my hair. She didn't scar me for life or anything."

"So the good shampoo makes up for the rest?"

"Yeah - I guess so."

I know most of what he said is true - but am not so sure about the last part.
