This is the girl who helps me every Monday. She assists me with the tiny kids class, works so very hard throughout her own, and then waits and watches through the older kids jazz classes. When we are done for the night, she folds the mats, turns on our special "Mommy and K music", sweeps the floor, and helps me lock up.
Tonight I put a little piece of candy by the CD player for her. She holds it up betwen her thumb and forefinger, "Mommy what's this?"
"Oh I put that there for you."
"How come?"
"Well, because, sometimes when you are a good kid, and you work hard, sometimes you just deserve a little something special."
She furrows her brow a bit and sets the candy on the table. "But I already have a little something special."
"What?"
She twists her mouth into a crooked smile and her eyes are twinkly. "You."
She runs to me, puts her little arms around my neck and hugs me. Then takes my face in her tiny hands and whispers, "You are my favorite thing."
And I don't know how I got so lucky.
