friday

Friday.

I dropped a very sick princess off at her dad's house Friday morning before I set off on my own exciting adventure.

2 blood draws, and ultrasound, a visit to the VA and an MRI.

The blood was the worst of it. You'd think at this point, they'd just put some sort of a straw or something in my vein so they wouldn't have to decide which elbow was less bruised before they jabbed me. Hell, the band-aids aren't even dry before they decide they need more. Can't I just give them a keg of it, and they can just go tap some when the occasion calls?

The ultrasound was fine. Better than fine - it was wonderful. Although the whole point of this was to make sure that little Yoda didn't have any glaring genetic disorders like down syndrome or spina biffida, it was impossible to be worried about anything of the sort while we were watching. First thing he (or she - we have no idea) did was wave to us. She put the little camera thingy on my stomach and he just looked up and waved. The professor was amazed. We got some amazing pictures too. Yoda is a thumb sucker - and thankfully, has only two. In addition - his legs and arms seem to be the same length, 10 toes, 10 fingers, a relatively normal looking head, and as far as cellular mitosis goes - he seems to have figured it out. We'll see what the rest of the tests tell us.

The MRI was quite peaceful. I am not the least bit claustrophobic, so the fact that my head was wedged into a birdcage apparatus, which was then locked onto a cot, which was then plunged into a tube the size of a coffin, didn't phase me at all. I even had squishy little earplugs to help block out the jackhammer sound. What the earplugs couldn't seem to block out were the "calming bird sounds" piped into the room to help soothe the patients nerves. (Like any bird in the world is going to be hanging out directly on top of a jackhammer.) It wasn't relaxing at all - it was like Hitchcock, and the poor MRI guy - try as he might, could not figure out how to turn it off.

I go back next week for a two hour scan - hopefully they've changed it to something less annoying - like Miley Cyrus Music, or screamins toddlers.

what i remember about mri's is the sound of someone taking a bat to the side of the machine. i am horribly claustrophobic so mr. treats came in with me and held on to my foot. That gave me the confidence that if I gave him the a kick in the face, he'd pull me out.

i'm glad everything looks good for yoda and hope the princess is better by now.

i'm going to e-mail you about getting together soon.

I. Am. So. Excited.

And you haven't lived until you've experienced a breast MRI... Upside down with your girls hanging in little baskets. So flattering. But they did give me headphones with actual music.

I haven't checked in for awhile so I had a lot to catch up on. Wow. Congratulations!!!! I just had my third (oops, was that giant hole in the condom when we started??) baby this year and he is wonderful. I'm happy for you and for the little one. Bastard-schmastard. This baby will have the most loving family around, so he will be supremely blessed. I hope you will have some answers soon on your health. I had an MRI years ago and they let me bring my own music to listen to. Please don't keep us waiting when you hear anything. You'll be in my prayers. J
