The concept of "good news" is rather subjective. This is how it went down when we started to share:
Kids: "Wooo-hooo! A baby? A real one? A human?" . . . . "Wait, do we have a CHOICE between the dog and a baby, or has this already been decided?"
Brother: "Are you sure?" Yeah.
"How sure?" 13 weeks, four bloodtests and two ultrasounds sure.
"And you're just telling me now?" Yeah - sorry.
"Like, I mean - wow, I'm taken aback, but," (deep breath, complete change in vocal tone) "Wow! Congratulations - that's awesome." Um, dude - that was a little too delayed to be convincing.
"Gimme a second - I'm trying here. And by the way - my name is now gender neutral, so feel free to use it."
Ex: "So is THAT why you want a divorce?!" No -this has been two years now, it just needs to get done.
"I don't know what to say." I know, and I am sorry.
"Whatever."
The Professor's mom: "I am sooo happy! Thrilled! But you know, in my day, that was illegal."

Phew...the hardest ones are behind you. Maybe the ex will be spurred on to finalize things. How did the princess react?
I'm glad it's out in the open for you now, with the kids and the ex, especially. I won't say anything to the kids until you say so.
I hope you are feeling okay.
P.S. "Treats" is gender neutral, too.
Illegal? Sorry, but that is funny.
...and who says January is boring! you have a whole lot going on. just stopped over to check in and read up. I am SO happy for you!!! It may not be conventional but it is still a miracle and you are an amazing mom so this new baby is already blessed!
